19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet saved four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
